I’ve been a tinnitus-haver since I was 17 (wear earplugs at concerts and band rehearsal, kids!). Like so many tinnitus sufferers I’ve been looking for relief (if not a cure…the way brains handle sound is crazy and makes it hard to work with). Earlier this year I started treatment through my audiologist using a Lenire device, which is pretty wild. It’s also FDA approved for treatment (*again, NOT a cure*). After several months’ use, it’s definitely helped.

For lack of a better description, the treatment has made me not care about my tinnitus as much. I still notice it, but not as often, and when I do, my attention doesn’t seem to fixate on it.

My audiologist has had me in every 6 weeks to measure my progress, and over time it’s clear my self-reported metrics for how impactful my tinnitus is in my life has lessened. Yay! Do I wish it would eliminate the sounds in my head? You bet. But this result comes in as a win for me.

The treatment isn’t a panacea, but it’s been tested and vetted in Europe, and is in its second year here in the US; results seem promising for a large percentage of people who participate. Definitely better than a lot of the money-grabbing snake oil products that I’ve seen out there.

If you’re interested, ask your audiologist about it, and/or use Lenire’s site to find out more and find a participating audiologist who can give you details.

N.B. This is not cheap, and most (all?) insurers won’t cover the cost. But if you get to the point of looking seriously at it see if your provider will work with you on payment plans, etc. It was worth the money for me; YMMV
