Relentless Storm Bert destroys house in Carmarthenshire village

A property on Lon Y Felin collapsed after heavy rain and strong winds hit Garnswllt around two miles south of Ammanford, on the border between the counties of Swansea and Carmarthenshire.

Emergency services were called to the detached property that has remained unoccupied, and thankfully no-one was hurt.

Images taken at the scene show the scale of the damage, with at least half of the property totally destroyed.

Bricks are left strewn all over the grass and one half of the house appears to have wilted under the pressure of the storm and is now totally unshielded from the elements.

The collapse came as Storm Bert battered regions in and around Ammanford, with multiple areas flooded, rivers rising to abnormal levels, and roads closed.

Mid and West Wales Fire Service has confirmed that it was notified of the property collapse but did not attend as nobody was in need of rescue and there was a risk of further collapse or damage.

A yellow weather warning was issued by Met Office for wind and rain before the storm commenced on Saturday and continued throughout Sunday, into Monday.

The severe downpour resulted in cars driving through deep pools of water as they attempted to navigate through Ammanford.

National Resources Wales also issued 60 flood alerts and 50 flood warnings across the whole of Wales.

However, Met Office have forecasted fewer extreme conditions today with sunshine and the odd shower.
