The Neroberg cog railway in Wiesbaden (Hesse), which opened in 1888, is an interesting construction. The 438.5 metre long track of the railway overcomes a height difference of 83 metres up to the Neroberg. The carriage travelling downhill pulls a carriage on the other track upwards by gravity and ballast water. Water is taken into a tank at the upper station and released again at the lower station.
