Observing a quiet #CoatiMonday with a vintage piece. You may have wondered whether the O'Reilly book series ever got a coati on a cover and, in the early 2000s, they did, using whatever 19th-century lithograph this is.

Sad for me, the book was one I didn't have any possible use for and was too expensive to have for just the mild souvenir value. And the book is now so out of print it isn't even listed on the Animal Menagerie search engine at https://www.oreilly.com/animals.csp

Animal Menagerie - O'Reilly Media

What's that animal on the front of your O'Reilly book? You'll find it listed here.

I may have retired for the moment @bakertoons's sweet trophy icon of me, but that doesn't mean the thought is wholly out of my mind. For this #CoatiMonday let me share my own take on the same premise, me just Gumping around, hanging out and sometimes messing with people who didn't notice me on the wall there. Again, don't worry about where my body is or what it's up to or how I'll get out of this fix; it's just a hangout.

My own art, original at https://www.furaffinity.net/view/55229582/

And not to brag but I really like the job I did on the iPod Shuffle's tangled cables there.

And a happy first really warm #CoatiMonday of the year! I have mentioned friends have helped lower my melting point to where I can get pretty fluid, which is always fun.

That's not to say I never feel overwhelmed by things or need to pace a little but at least that way, it's more fun.

Animation was a YCH offering by FA/Aver-Art.

Fun fact this #CoatiMonday: coatis belong to the superfamily Musteloidea, so the things you learn from drawing weasels and martens and otters teach you about drawing us. And like my distant cousins we enjoy a phenomenal natural innocence! See how good and nice I look?

This is mostly a quick doodle to test out some Procreate brushes that @Alairthephoenix sent me, in response to my hope for a brush that would make my art look more better-er. I'm liking this first test.

For #CoatiMonday this week I share another picture from an artist whose identity it is not yet fit to reveal to the world. But he's rather fond of the question, 'What if Austin were anthro? Also buff?' and Iagree that if my human'sona looked like this he'd be feeling pretty comfortable about the world.

Simple, back-to-basics sort of #CoatiMonday here with my own art, trying to do a picture of myself without any weird or exaggerated elements, just a fair attempt at getting the anatomy a little better than average. You know, to show I can do that before going on to something really wild.

All seems good, anyway.

This #CoatiMonday I show you a sure way to beat the summer heat: be a water-filled pooltoy! Remember to leave some space so that, if the heat gets *really* bad, you can hide in the freezer a while without causing trouble. This #CoatiMonday is a good chance to help your robot cousins with some routine maintenance! Here I sit up with cousin @Loosf and help it review all its ports for any that have changed or that look suspicious. It's good to check routinely in case of trouble!

My own art, original at https://www.furaffinity.net/view/59661717/ and based on a silly toot from https://blimps.xyz/@Austin_Dern/113771245251167716

And my thanks to my robot cousin for letting me use it to amuse the public!

Might be worth checking out those more cryptic symbols though.

It's important to help your robot friends by checking over their ports at least twice a year and see if any suspicious new ones hav ...

And a happy first #CoatiMonday in this Year of the Snake! You know a snake's body is almost all torso, with almost none of their length tail? To help you see, please consider the coati-snake, with an enormous quantity of nice, readily available, fluffy belly for those who approach just right.

Also hey, nice to see @Chiaroscuro --- one of my longest friendships --- bringing the enthusiasm from the mongoose community!

Coati-Snake Austin and Chiaroscuro, 30 January 2025 by AustinDern

Happy New Year! And why not get into the spirit of the Year of the Snake? Fun fact: snakes are almost all torso; very little of their le ...

For this #CoatiMonday before Valentine's Day, I share photos of a gift from my current and I hope forever valentine, my bride. This past Frithmas she gave me this nice pair of vinyl coati stickers and while I haven't decided what to stick them on, I love having them by my side and showing what I might look like if I were flat and iridescent; I hope you do too!

The stickers were made by Ryan McCullough, https://www.ryanteachesart.com

Are you feeling the chill this #CoatiMonday? Thanks to artist ZukaroTravon I'm not; this heat lamp is just the right thing to bring me up to a nice, cozy temperature. Say, did I mention Zukaro is an expert at finding ways to lower your melting point and make it easier to spend the week as a cozy blob?

Sketch commission from FA/zukarotravon who as far as I know hasn't posted this anywhere yet.

It's a fine-looking late winter #CoatiMonday and you know what that means: the first stretchbow of the season! This phenomenon, seen when a sufficiently elastic furry is feeling energetic, was first documented by elastic artist Aver the Dorbley (FA/aver-art) and offered as a YCH at https://www.furaffinity.net/view/58595009/

(So far as I know individual instances of the stretchbow aren't being posted, but if I learn better I'll edit this to match.)

Stretchbow YCH by Aver-Art

A quick simple YCH for the stretchy folk out there. Hit me up if you're interested. Only $15 usd!

'Flate Tuesday already? It seems to sneak up on you earlier every year, for example, despite this being #CoatiMonday! Well, at least someone's having a ball, and I'm it? Looks like a merry time for all.

Inflated Austin and Air Hose, 28 February 2025 by AustinDern

Oh, goodness, next week is Flate Tuesday already? No wonder some mischievous air hose doing the Mandark laugh has snagged hold of me and ...

And a happy #CoatiMonday morning. Just enjoying the early-spring weather around here and waking up just enough to confirm this doesn't need me to act on anything.

Simple pastoral picture of mine, drawn mostly to keep practicing pictures where nothing weird is going on. Original at https://www.furaffinity.net/view/60149296/

Hey, hope you had a great time with the eclipse this past week. I had a great one and this #CoatiMonday I can share why! You know how great cheese as old as the Moon can be?

(Whew, some weird stuff after the very normal last week.)

Austin, Moon, and Objector, 13 March 2025 by AustinDern

If not food then why made of cheese? Check and mate, objector. . . So you know, just was thinking how nice it can be to eat the Moon and ...

Can't keep a good #CoatiMonday bottled up! This picture by techno depicts Austin as a glass-bottle coati, which is a fantastic thing to be and a fantastic way to be it. What might be the amethyst-colored liquid inside? No way to know, but I'm delighted to show it off.

Original art by techno as mentioned; not in any online galleries I'm aware of.

Hey, anyone else hear about this great Slab offer? You find one on your doorstep and you can just ignore the weird CGI guy wanting you to return it or whatever and have all sorts of fun! You should get one yourself, there's no downside!

This week's #CoatiMonday is a sketch page done by unidentifiedtypingobject, working on the theme of Coati and Slab, and if you haven't seen the Courage the Cowardly Dog with the slab-returning or haven't seen it recently, give it a try. I believe Cartoon Network is showing it this very week.

Art not posted to https://www.furaffinity.net/gallery/unidentifiedtypingobject/ but if that chances I'll probably not remember to say anything. Sorry. Busy with a Slab.

Just watched the 'Return the Slab' episode of Courage the Cowardly Dog and I'm very happy to report: yeah, that's quite good.
@Austin_Dern my favorite part of that episode is when he says "Oh, come on."

Time for spring cleaning this #CoatiMonday! And there's nothing like getting your paws dirty and really doing the work yourself, as your best vacuum-cleaner self.

Mostly silliness, but also my chance to hang out with some of those maid furries you see all over the place. And there's something nice about getting your robot side on.

My own art, original at https://www.furaffinity.net/view/60474839/ and I was joking in asking if this was tail vore but based on the people who've been favoriting it, I guess I'm hitting something people do want to see.

Austin Vacuum, 6 April 2025 by AustinDern

I have this friend who keeps suggesting I should be a maid and I'm skeptical that I'd make sense in one of those frilly dresse ...

I've got one of those incredibly relatable experiences to share this #CoatiMonday ... you know how it is when something or other has gone and stretched your tail out preposterously long, and then this blue snake comes along and thinks it's the most gorgeous snake ever and you're trying to avoid the snake's affections without hurting them too much? I know, it's always a weird day when that hits you.

This is a commission from @bakertoons, original at https://www.furaffinity.net/view/60395558/ and as you likely spotted, based on the Pink Panther cartoon where Pink's tail got stretched preposterously long ('Pinktails For two', viewable at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yp6_9VuqLyQ )

@Austin_Dern This reminds me of the robo-weasel from Whiplash, only they used their muzzles as vacuums. They had a good advertising spiel, I should copy it down some time - I know it started along the lines of "Too busy to own a pet? Too lazy to take care of one? Do other people hate you as much as I do? You need the robo-weasel!"
@Austin_Dern *rkk-tkks appropriately at you where needed, and generally appreciates other slabness*
@Chiaroscuro Aw, thanks! That really fills out the day.

@Austin_Dern 'weird' and 'normal' are pretty relative

I didn't immediately think this was weird, because you've been talking about eating the moon for a while now

and I didn't assume last week was relatively mundane, I'd just thought your limbs were stretched and had gotten all tied together in a giant knot, or had merged into a standard sized peg in order to be mounted as part of a toy accessory like an action figure hand

which is still within the realms of normal for you in my mind

@Mycroft Oh thank goodness, I'm so relieved! I do worry people start thinking strangely about me.
@Austin_Dern I do think strangely about you all the time, you should be more worried if people think of you mundanely. Though I assume that's what you meant.
@Mycroft I'm just glad to be thought of at all, really. I kind of figure most people have enough of me and stop.

@Austin_Dern Seems nice and relaxing out in the sun!

As far as weird things...don't worry, I'm sure in an hour we'll find you a little drippier.

@KayOhtie It's not my fault I have a suspiciously low melting point! Not exactly! Depending on how you mean 'fault'!
@Austin_Dern Also I didn't say but the placement for valves here is really cute
@KayOhtie Aw, thank you! They felt like a good spot to set them so the picture would read cleanly.
@Austin_Dern AAAAA I love it so much
@Loosf I _love_ this reaction, brings me such delight!
@Austin_Dern A nice cobotti. indeed.

@Chiaroscuro Aw, thanks!

It's a rare treat to take off a panel and wire up, you know.

@Austin_Dern sometimes, it's better to let someone else wear your face for a while. Or at least not wear it yourself.
-F

@Hearth Yes, exactly! It's so cozy to just settle back and be a little less intensely there.

Plus sometimes a friend will swap something with you and that's always great fun.
