A person on a bicycle is by far the most energy-efficient among animals and machines per distance traveled relative to body weight. The bicycle is magic.

@davidho why does the car have five times the body weight? Is that the weight of a car or the weight of five people in a car?

@catch56 @davidho

It doesn't? "Man" is around 80 kg, and "Automobiles" have two entries, one at just above 1000 kg and the other at ... say around 3-4000 kg? I assume that's one entry for light and heavy cars.

@skjeggtroll @catch56 @davidho so if the weight of the vehicle is being included, that means the bicycle is actually even more efficient if you just count the weight of the animal/person being transported and not the vehicle.

Indeed, it's good to note that both axes are logarithmic, so one division is 10x larger than the previous one.
