This website is incredible

---

Between 2009 and 2012, iPhones had a built-in "Send to YouTube" button in the Photos app. Many of these uploads kept their default IMG_XXXX filenames, creating a time capsule of raw, unedited moments from random lives.

Inspired by Ben Wallace, I made a bot that crawled YouTube and found 5 million of these videos! Watch them below, ordered randomly.

@phocks Whoa, it's the middle of the day. I got stuff to do. Must close this tab now. It's dangerously mesmerizing.
@phocks well wow, talk about total lack of #privacy... three videos in, I've watched someone play with their kids in the pool, listened to (and watched) a young child sing Jingle Bells, and what not. #onlineprivacy

@phocks Amazing. I had to turn it off, or I could have watched all day.

One nice thing was that the third video that came up was from the day of my 50th birthday. It was a sweet one, too, of a little Asian girl having a conversation with her father.

@phocks OMG this is so extraordinary. I just watched half a dozen clips and I was blown away. Really a time capsule, and illustrates how fast things have changed technologically in 12 or 15 years. Sites like this really illustrate the magic of the Internet πŸ‘€β€οΈ
@phocks This is time capsule.
@phocks https://default-filename-tv.neocities.org/ is another one, I guess that one is for another type of phone or camera! I would watch it for hours. It feels like soaking up humanity

A YouTube aggregator that serves only videos without edits to the filename.

@phocks What a wonderful time killer!
@phocks I just saw someone using a metal spoon on a teflon pan. Where do I report this crime?
@phocks
"default IMG_XXXX filenames" - I hate apps like that. Just put a date and time on it like any sane person would.
@phocks it’s like watching a FailArmy video but the fails never come
@phocks
I found it disconcerting. I got videos with 0 views. What if there is an unwatched murder or assault hiding in there?

@phocks So am I to understand that these were unknowingly uploaded? This is interesting but I may be missing the DIFFERENCE between these and uploads that did not use this button.
@Christopher_S_Johnson No I wouldn't say they were uploaded unknowingly. They pushed the Send to YouTube button and they got sent to YouTube.
@phocks I saw one that said it was from Nov 2008. How is that possible? iPhones couldn’t even take video then.
