The fact that we start to have the same conversations about crypto again makes my soul want to leave my body.

Yes. It's still all scams. A socially destructive set of technologies and attached belief systems.

Look at it this way. All the MAGAts and Trumpers wot skip blithely into Orange Jesus dodgy schemes are gonna get badly burned. If enough people lose enough money maybe things will be different in 2026.
@tante Not a big fan of the whole thing either, but there is still no alternative to crypto if I want to send money to my friends and In-laws in Iran without losing 30 % in the process

@haaflife @tante

Well, yes there is... you could use any number of low cost currency exchange websites like wise.com or ofx -- it's actually willful blindness to think that there aren't alternatives that are far better suited to the task at hand than crypto

@davidsheffield @tante you can't send money to Iran through any bank like wise due to sanctions. Iran is not connected to the international banking system anymore and hasn't been for years. Besides bringing cash on visits and illegal, private exchange services that charge around 30 %, there is only crypto. Your cunty, unnecessarily aggressive tone doesn't change that, unfortunately.
@davidsheffield @tante and before you mention it: cash drop services line worldremit etc don't work either. No western company can offer transactions with Iran at this point

@haaflife @tante

Well, that's the point of sanctions? So that people can't send money to countries that are backwards and medieval theocratic dictatorships that fund terrorists? So you're saying that bitcoin is useful for being a criminal?

@davidsheffield @tante it's legal to send money to people or even conduct business with Iranian companies. But if you do business with Iran, your company will not be allowed to do business in the US ever again. And no bank picks Iran over the US
@tante It's infuriating as a financial professional, investment is the process of unproductive assets (cash) funnelling into productive assets (businesses or otherwise), the outflow of capital into bitcoin which causes more and more electricity to be wasted for no utility gained is like an anti-investment, sure to impoverish any country which gives it credence

@tante Fiat currency isn't exactly real, either. Like a couple of relies here, it hands the ledger and taxation to governments--which we know can be just as evil or good as humans make them.

Capitalism is a socially destructive set of technologies and attached belief systems, with benefits. Don't blame that on digitizing it.

You can blame all of it entirely on the scum who think there's some kind of value in monetizing money, and then hoarding it. Cryptoboys are in this space, but not alone.
