Do you remember that branch I cut off one of my Bloodgood Japanese maples earlier this year? No, of course not. But maybe you recall that there was an old nest in it, likely a hummingbird nest? Perhaps not.
Well, I think I can firmly say today, it was a hummingbird nest. I now believe the female Anna’s in my yard “lives” in those two Bloodgoods trees on the street. She was busily “buzzing” around them today.
The Mr. Anna’s lives in the backyard. The Mrs. lives in the front yard. And now it completely makes sense when I witness them “coming together” in the side yard along the fence once a year.
I thought I had a better picture of this, and I thought I had one with both of them together. I have seen them both sitting here, about a foot apart before. Here is the Mr. on Christmas day 2021 waiting for a rendezvous with the Mrs. in the side yard.

Here is a post (and reminder) about the bird nest in the branch.

100 Days of Blog - A no labor day.

On second thought, this might actually be a female! Some very mature females have a large patch on their throat and I am certain my Mr. has a full gorgette, especially in December.
There are several juveniles and less mature females that come to my feeder without any colored throat feathers.
