Normally I wouldnât CW this cause I want to tell you about a friend of mine whom I admired.
Was recently reminded of a BBS/iRC/university friend who passed on in 2015 at the age of 42. It was a heart attack while driving. He was always a âbig guyâ but was on the path to better health with lifestyle changes and his heart still got him.
I tear up remembering him now. Even though I havenât heard from him in years since he left the province after university (grown up life is hard yo) I heard stories about him through the Grapevine so to speak and from that he was still the most funny and amazing kind hearted guy he was in Uni. Without him I likely wouldnât have learned about so many of the great 90s Canadian bands back then, or the ridiculously long story form jokes that would take 5 to 10 minutes to tell and end with the worst punchline ever that made you wanna punch him then give him a drink for making you hang on that long. Also one of the most pleasant people to get drunk with as you just turn âlegalâ :) one of his jokes was ask âhey, whatâs this?â Stick his face to a nearby flat surface like a counter top or cupboard what your face twist into a confused âHuh?â And go , âIâm a barnacle!â đđ
Without him our group never would have heard of #Minto #newbrunswick , and for the longest while we thought he made that place up (this is up there with his 5-10 minute jokes), but no itâs a real place!
That name rolls off the tongue. Minto.. mmmminto⌠Mmmmmmmmm-into!
In the âAdult worldâ he was a pillar at his company and loved so much that they named an annual award after him because he MCd many of their hosted events..
Anyways not sure if thereâs a point or lesson here, just remembering a really cool guy who died too young. And I miss him even if I hadnât talked to him in the years before but I was happy to know he had a good life with a wonderful partner and all.
And Iâm glad to be able to tell some of you about him.
