I can't believe we're all (including myself) signing up on Bluesky when we know that a) it's not really decentralized (despite some very smart people working there on this); b) it has a bunch of venture capital; and c) it thus is a for-profit company providing a service to us for free. It's almost as if we never learn from our mistakes. I wonder if that's applicable to any other parts of our society....

@zeitkunst still getting used to mastodon, but the biggest relieve is that there's no ads and even worse: Facebook suggested posts 👀. Bluesky I didn't know yet, but I'm guessing I should skip.. (?)
@elena yeah, the fact of no ads and no suggested posts--and that I own my own data and can move instances if something goes south--makes Mastodon vastly superior to me than any of the other platforms. I joined bluesky out of necessity since that's where everybody seems to have moved rather than here, but I'm just using it to repost my posts from here. I have a feeling within a year or two we're going to want to be leaving Bluesky again due to some annoying change in their ToS, some breakdown in moderation, or some bad thing they due as a result of the venture capital.
@zeitkunst I actually wasnt even realizing the changes in governement are also dangerous to meta-users. Hmm.. And yes, what if again the numbers become an issue, bluesky might be sold, changed, as so many examples. Maybe I do set up an account to just, like you, forward some things, mainly weaving art. A bit out of curiosity too of course.
