sure sex is great but have you ever turned off an IBM PC AT by throwing the big red switch and been absolutely, supremely confident that all computing has now ceased and will not resume just because the operating system gets peckish for some midnight updates
wtb one of those switches for my brain

Yes, this post mentioned sex as part of the joke form. If you get Weird about that, the other Old thing you will get to experience today is the "plonk" of landing on a blocklist.

For the rest of you, thank you for not beign weird creeps in my notifications.

@LionsPhil And the satisfying thunk of the switch.. pure perfection.
@LionsPhil the same energy as turning off the power strip back in my day
@LionsPhil not sure why you think sex is great, but this lever is indeed such a turn-on

@LionsPhil Oh my god I remember that switch.

One of the all-time great satisfactions in life, that switch.

@LionsPhil Many many moons ago i pilfered a IBM PS/2 386 tower from an old job and it was a massive all metal machine that weighted like 20 kg and had a red tab power switch the size of my hand. When you powered on and off that thing, the entire building KNEW.
@LionsPhil The TRS-80 Model 4P power switch isnโ€™t just giant and red, it also *glows*

@LionsPhil no... but only because I never had an AT, all I had was an X86 spring circle super turbo pc xt, but it had that switch ...
@halla @LionsPhil
I can confirm the XT also came with the big red switch - difficult to accidentally activate too.

@LionsPhil cuh-CHUNK

that big red switch was so deeply satisfying

@LionsPhil Oh the switches on those IBM PC ATs were *SO* good
@LionsPhil I've never not been confident of that :)
@LionsPhil This is why I prefer power supplies that have switches on them.
@LionsPhil The Big Red Switch is the first of many things they stole from my generation.

@LionsPhil

That *thunk* of a proper disconnect/connect of power.

A real feeling of powering up a robobrain with electricity.

@LionsPhil Oh, God... I can still feel the satisfying *THUNK* of switching it off.

Life needs more of those switches...
