Iโ€™m staying on Mastodon because the operating model is immune to hostile billionaire takeover ๐Ÿดโ€โ˜ ๏ธ
@securingdev is it immune or merely resistant?
@mjr @securingdev if a billionaire tries to buy my server: good luck, it's mine. If they buy the folks that maintain my software (it's @gotosocial so I'd be surprised) I set up a different server software and migrate there.
If they buy Hetzner we are doomed ๐Ÿ˜‚
@securingdev I'd like to make it clear that I'm willing to sell tooter.wishy.co.uk for $10m to any venture capitalist who wants to pay!
@securingdev As I understand BlueSky is the same. It's open sourced and you can migrate your whole account to a different server/system(?). And the interface is, I think, nicer
@securingdev Gargron keeps enshittifying things, but it could be a lot worse.
@securingdev me too: I am on the others but my core platform is Mastodon: will be posting a blog on this on Friday

@securingdev

Please DON'T tempt fate by saying things like that.

Thanks to you, I'll be knocking on wood until my knuckles bruise.

@securingdev I'm not sure that's 100% true...

@faduda @securingdev Microsoft nearly destroyed the web with IE during the 2000s.

W3C has been all but captured by the music and movie industry.

Google Mail has a near monopoly on e-mail.

It's probably not all that immune, though I would agree it's a lot more resilient.

@securingdev also no advertising on Mastodon and no algorithm either.
Run by people for people.
