Someone was asking on Threads if "anyone actually uses Spotlight" on #macOS, because they'd never used it at all. It blew my mind. I can barely imagine using a Macintosh without Spotlight.
@collin heck. I downloaded power toys on windows to have spotlight on windows.
@collin Spotlight or a Spot-a-like such as Alfred or Raycast are essential to my use of the Mac.

@collin every person uses their tools differently. that’s the magic of a general purpose device.

i only use spotlight occasionally. i’ve never found it very useful to be honest.

but i also have pretty bad dyslexia. trying to find things by spelling them is laughable. i organize almost exclusively by placing things in specific positions visually.

despite not being able to remember my own phone number i can always remember where something is, so that’s the basis of my organization.

@collin This is sort of thing is a known issue with the Threads algorithm. It wants to put posts in front of people that will get interactions. So there are a lot of grifters who will post things like “Has anyone tried this ‘food’ stuff before?”, and people will comment. They said they’re trying to crack down on it, but it seems to still be around. https://www.theverge.com/2024/10/7/24264382/threads-engagement-bait-problem-mosseri-meta
Threads knows it has an engagement bait problem

Meta has noticed the nonsense engagement bait posts appearing across its Twitter-like platform Threads, and Adam Mosseri says it’s looking at how to address the issue.

@collin Same here, I use it all the time, but I don't have Alfred or Quicksilver or anything of the sort anymore. Spotlight is good enough for me.
