With Musk serving as a de facto cabinet member, it's reasonable to assume that X/Twitter will freely provide federal agencies with the sort of data that would normally require a warrant.

It's equally safe to assume that far right agency heads will use that data to pursue administration goals, like immigrant deportation, abortion prosecution, protest suppression, etc.

If you know anyone who insists on using Twitter, please urge them to be excruciatingly careful about what they post there from now on. Information and data that may have seemed innocuous a year ago are now a threat vector, and the person posting them may not always be the person most at risk.

@upstreamism If they're still on X they're on their own.
@upstreamism Smart. Talking to good friends there about leaving. I will very soon.
@upstreamism what’s the safest way to get off of twitter?
@upstreamism Yes. I'm trying to start a business, but still felt that I should leave X/Twitter completely over the principles of it all. Elon Musk's goals do not align with my own, and I would rather not make him more money while struggling to make it myself.
@upstreamism From what I understand, the data warehouse companies that gather all your private data already sell that data to the government. You already said you didn't care when you accepted the TOS.
@upstreamism Not so sure about the "require" a warrant bit.
@upstreamism I quit Twitter when Musk took over. Definitely not going back. Be careful out there, Twitter users.
@Bwheatnyc @upstreamism My last post there was when Elon the #oligarch took over Xitter. I deleted my account early this year.
@charvaka @upstreamism That really was the best choice - leaving Twitter. Even scarier thinking he’s going to have a role in our government.
@upstreamism Frightening but true……ID theft condoned….

@upstreamism

I know hundreds of people still using it.

The worst part is that they're official Canadian government accounts. 🤬

@EricLawton @upstreamism
I KNOW, eh?
Even our PM cannot figure it out.
No biscuits for them.
@upstreamism Thankfully I don't live there and won't visit until this madness ends.
@kevinrj @upstreamism Yep. I gave up on Twitter a long time ago when they got rid of their accessibility team. Shame.
@upstreamism Wonder how long it will take before we discover that they kept all your data after you deleted your #Twitter account.
@upstreamism to be real this has been the case for a long time anyway, large tech companies routinely "voluntarily comply" in ways above and beyond what a warrant or court asks them for, the NSA once described google as "one of our greatest intelligence partners" so I would be genuinely surprised if Twitter hasn't been giving out detailed information to the government for decades already

In saying this, it could always get worse I guess, and Musk + Trump is definitely a sign that it's getting worse lol
