The Swiss cup is not organised by the FIG, so it's outside of the official competition. It's the first time I'm watching it and it has more of a gala vibe. ✨
I'm always proud if I get through the geo-block, I'm now watching Swiss tv. 🇨🇭
Also the first time: hearing Swiss German for a whole while. Der eine kann ich ziemlich gut verstehen, der andere ist schwieriger. I'm thinking one is a sports journalist and the other is a retired gymnast (so less trained in speaking). 🍻
What's weird is that the scores don't appear on the screen. The commentators just say them and if you missed it, too bad. 📞
So the Swiss cup! It's different from classic competitions, as a male and a female gymnast are paired, and their scores are added up. They both compete on one apparatus of choice, and the first 8 pairs go to the second round. Then both compete on a different apparatus, and four pairs go to the semifinal, and so on, until one pair wins. Most pairs are from the same country, so there's a french team, an American team... But that's not mandatory.
Kaylia Nemour is here! She started on bars and didn't get a really high score?! I should look up why. She's paired with the Swiss Baumann. It feels like Switzerland was like: hey Kaylia could you come to our event, we'll pair you up with our best bars guy, pls? 🥹
They got to the semi final!
The french guy is wearing a shirt with a very pretty neck cut.
Brazil present! The woman fell from the beam but they're still in.
They have line referees! The FIG should take notes.
Macchiati is apparently an Italian surname. Mmhm.
It's actually already over, I'm watching the recording. I didn't look up who wins!
The Dutch team is out after two rounds. Naomi Visser did well, the difference was really close (they were fifth and only four could continue).
The Brazilian woman didn't do too well on bars. 🥢🥺 The guy though! Impressive. ➖
Nemour fell off the beam 🥖😥
Baumann on even bars was cool. ♊
But they're in the final! #KayliaNemour
Sadly the Brazilian team is not.
What's weird about this competition set-up is that some apparatuses are easier to get higher scores on than others.

The french team went first and did well.
Baumann did well. ⭕
Now Nemour, on bars. 🥢 And she doesn't make it! Not a fall, but a wrong turn and an empty swing. Not looking good.
The french team wins!
And apparently it's Baumann's very last competition!
Becoming second in his own country, due to Nemour's fall. 🥺 Sad for him. And not typical for her at all. Poor kid. The Swiss thought, we gonna pair up our retiring star with the very best singleton we can find, for a small victory tour in his home country. But it didn't work out.
(And now the french have the tiniest revenge win over Nemour.)
