Just since I'm rarely on Mastodon: you can find me on Bluesky at https://bsky.app/profile/juliusv.com

Bluesky Social
Alas, I cannot connect to that profile.
@kasperd hmm, how come?
Nothing shows up when I try to search for that profile name.
@kasperd that's strange... you're just entering my homepage URL juliusv.com as the username and it doesn't show up on Bluesky for you?
This is how I searched.
@kasperd oh with an additional Bluesky suffix? What kind of social media aggregator app is that? Anyway, it works on Bluesky itself at least 😅
It's not an aggregator. It's a fediverse server running the Soapbox software. From the description that sounds like that's based on Mastodon but with additional features.
@kasperd Ah ok. But does it support Bluesky and the AT Protocol in general? I'm afraid I don't know how to make it work properly 🤷🏻‍♂️
It works with other Mastodon servers. I don't know which stack Bluesky is running. I haven't had time to set up my own fediverse server, so I am not familiar with the underlying protocol.
@kasperd Ok that explains it - Bluesky has nothing to do with Mastodon, it uses the AT Protocol specifically invented for it (and a more scalable federated new social networking world).

What it would take for me to create a profile on that is one of two things:

  • A server in that network operated by somebody I know.
  • A server implementation I could run myself available as a deb package in the default Ubuntu or Debian repositories.

Anything other than that would feel like a too steep path to entry for me at the time being.

@kasperd that'll come with time for sure, it's still fairly new and centralized in practice right now, but they definitely care about the ability for others to run federated servers in the future.
I have seen too many services initially promise federation and then back out of those promises afterwards. So I guess I'll wait and see where that service heads in the future.
@kasperd that is ok... just letting people know where I am :)
