Big tariffs on Chinese goods means the solar photovoltaic industry in the US is going to completely crater.

My brother-in-law works in solar on Oahu. Last year was his company's biggest year by far. Demand is insanely high here in Hawaii and in other states...
I should say *this year* has been their biggest year by far.
@brianvastag Putin will love that, as it delays the switch from fossil/uranium.

@brianvastag

They should thank their fascistic citizens.

@brianvastag

It might be a problem for residential solar but honestly even with the tariffs (which will magically evaporate as policy when he discovers he will lose money) utility scale renewables and storage are just more cost effective than fossil fuels.

Also our allies want our NG so bad, utilities would rather put up solar and use their terminals to ship it out.

@brianvastag they’ll see this as a win.
@brianvastag - haven’t bought a solar panel from China in more than five years. Most of my modules are made in Georgia.
@CommercialSolarGuy Are they at all competitive in price? The people I know in Hawaii source theirs from Asia.

@brianvastag - they get the job done. A little more expensive, but with the tariffs that have been in place on Chinese solar panels since 2014 - they’re close. The US have imported panels from China for a while. Southeast Asia has been the rage since 2018-2020.

Price of electricity is up enough that even domestic stuff works.
