who do maccabi tel aviv have next? π€

a lot of people reporting on this are complete strangers to football, and it shows. 5 hospitalisations is pretty light for a Europa League match.
last season i can't tell you how relieved i was LFC didn't draw any eastern european or italian sides
5 to nil in case you were wondering πΈ
some frankly despicable takes on here today regarding violence in football. absolutely no one should have to witness grown men scrapping in the street with fists or weapons.
i first assumed this was groups of ultras squaring off, horrible but what can you do, and I was glad Ajax seemed to get the best of them. when it turned out it was local townies who had to put the manners on the Tel Aviv ultras i admire their bravery.
but they should never be in that position: the invasion of lebanon offered uefa the perfect offramp to make good their previous cowardice.
we ought to be calling for israeli teams to be suspended from international competition, not calling for vigilante groups to patrol airports and train stations.
known ultras should not be granted permission to travel to international competition, just as should be the case for ultras of any team. i doubt israel is doing its duty on this subject, and if people are doing this work independently then they have my solidarity regarding their unpleasant task.
Lmao. just noticed Jordan Henderson on the bench. came on as a substitute after all the goals.
back to the subject of people talking about this being strangers to football.
i think a lot of people are assuming the amsterdam police made a political calculation this week. do none of these people have a sports team in their town? never experienced police standing off to obvious crimes? without being a fly on the wall of the amsterdam police's operations room or being familiar with their usual tactics for a high risk game you can't know this.
when liverpool fc won the prem for the first (and currently only) time at the end of the 19 to 20 season, there were 3 days of rioting in liverpool, illegal firework use and fire damage to liverpool's (and i'd argue the north west's) most famous landmark. to the best of my knowledge no arrests. i particularly remember one video of a fan who appeared to have died when he fell on his head after pulling down a lamp post.
at the other end of the scale when I lived in Chester many pubs would simply not open their front doors when Chester FC had a home game.
now, i think the police and state have very much shown their cards with how they have framed events. and i'm 99% sure they did indeed collude to encourage a violent zionist rally in the centre of amsterdam.
otoh, has no one else ever seen 800 riot cops being shit and useless? and if you have never witnessed the violence the surrounds all levels of association football (with the notable exception of the women's game) then lucky you, but police not getting involved is not on its own that suspicious really. i'm sure tooters who have lived in glasgow will have seen even worse than i have.
still amazed at people managing to have a bad time in amsterdam. some achievement
just eat some kroket and have some beer just like anyone else. it's not that hard
no american military support, apparently
