If you were 18 when Donald Trump ran for office the first time, you’d be 30 when Donald Trump’s next term ends. More than a decade will have gone by and the damage done won’t be reversible. That’s millions of people’s young adulthood flushed right down the toilet. Dreams squashed. Rights denied. And what can be reversed could take a decade more. It’s too long. It’s too much. I don’t think we can keep doing this. This is not a sustainable way to govern.
Sometimes I really wonder what it would be like if America required an “Are you sure?” vote a week later. Or twice-a-year referenda just to check. More than 50% disapproval and you’re replaced just like that. Four years is too long. It’s too long for us to wait until we can move in a direction we can live with, let alone be proud of. What can anyone do in these four years to stop any of it? We just have to deal with it. I hate that.
