I have a sneaking suspicion that of all the microblogging platforms, Mastodon is the right choice for nerdy content. So, here’s my nerdiest post as of recent:

Amiga Topaz 1.4, part 2

@losso3000

Do you know where siesta.font came from? I've always wondered about that.

@ali1234 Huh, not familiar with that font. Oof >1,000 search results on https://discmaster.textfiles.com/search?q=siesta.font 😅
Search

@losso3000

I know it from the shareware game Mechforce which was also known as Battleforce and Battlefort - versions of this game make up a big chunk of the search results. I don't think that is the origin though.

I always found it interesting because it isn't named after a gemstone like all the standard fonts, but it is instead named after a spanish word - which is the kind of thing an Amiga user would come up with.

It is basically yet another serif-less Topaz in appearance.

Browsing through the results, two things seem like likely origins:

https://discmaster.textfiles.com/view/21003/BS1%20part%2039.zip/BS1%20part%2039/Mac%20Fonts%201%5E1.adf/s/text - claims to be converted "MAC II" fonts, but I can't find any actual Apple ][ fonts that match anything on this disk.

https://discmaster.textfiles.com/browse/21003/BS1%20part%2018.zip/BS1%20part%2018/Font%20Designer%20v1.0%20d3.adf - the examples disk for a font editor, but it also contains a bunch of more well-known fonts as well as random stuff that looks ripped from games. Has a big overlap with the "MAC" disk across all three disks in the set.
