You know how queer people feel the first time they go into a gay bar and realize they're in a safe space to be completely themselves?

I just realized that's the way hate-filled people feel going to a Trump rally. #uspol

@msbellows I don’t actually agree with with you, although I admit I’m not quite clear on the “safe space” feeling, I don’t think that’s what is happening at these hate rallies. The gay bars offer a place to reveal your authentic self whereas the rallies are simply enforcing a racist ideology, much like a church service. Yes it brings people together, but individual thoughts are pushed down in order to imprint a common idea. It’s not the same in my mind. It’s a cult, and part of a cult is the fear of each individual of showing a difference. It’s not a happy place.
I feel like a summer camp might be a more relatable experience.
@CWilbur I feel everything you're saying, except for one note: most queer people I know truly are individuals (often evidenced by creativity), whereas authoritarians aren't actually individuals, because by definition they only feel whole within a hierarchy, with a victim below and a daddy above – so they feel like their true selves at a Trump rally.
