I’d venture that 50-60% of the people we met this trip who made is so awesome were not born and raised British citizens. From hotel and restaurant staff to food/shop vendors to folks we met in pubs and more, the city was flooded with life from immigrants from all over Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Thinking about this makes the rise in fascism fueled by racism and xenophobia across the U.S. and Europe even more gross and misguided. It’s nothing but hate being sold in exchange for power.

2/2 And don’t get me wrong—I’m not advocating for fully open borders. I don’t think anyone on the left is outside of the most pure of pure leftists. But we should be able to reach very reasonable compromises on immigration that allow people to seek a new life here while not burdening our resources and especially not demonizing people and cultures who can makes our country better in the long run.
@chopaganda not to mentiom that the US and UK economies and businesses would ve decimated without immigrants. Immigration is critical to staffing many businesses, from farms to restaurants to many other services
@tuneslist @chopaganda not to mention attracting genius level international talent to the US has been a boon for US tech for a long time. Even bigots should be smart enough to see that choking that pipeline is extremely misguided on many levels.
