@headlines_bot @ai6yr why are gas prices so high in California? Regular gas is less than three bucks per gallon in SE Wisconsin.

@joycebell @headlines_bot 1. All the refineries are in California, we do not share refining with other states, whereas the rest of the US gets supply from Texas, Louisiana, etc. -- we have limited refinieries
2. California has its own gasoline mix (which dramatically reduces air pollution), which is more expensive. It does make a HUGE difference.
3. There are California taxes on top.

btw, that photo is the most expensive (overly expensive) station in LA). Most are between $3.50 and $4.50 a gallon right now. Very misleading.

@ai6yr @headlines_bot
Last July I was putting air in my tires at the Quiktrip (free air!) and was going to get gas. The price had shot up. Turns out the refinery in Illinois lost power due to tornados, and though the power was restored it takes time to get the refinery going. A waiver was issued so Midwest gas stations could use more pollutey gas. Oh good more bad air to save 50 cents per gallon. https://www.jsonline.com/story/news/local/2024/08/02/wisconsin-gas-prices-to-drop-in-august-after-epa-issues-fuel-waiver/74644883007/
Why gas prices could drop in Wisconsin in August

The EPA waiver comes after a refinery outage in Illinois last month sent gas prices soaring across the Midwest.
