Blarg! ๐Ÿ™„ it seems there's an I-beam or something above the plaster, so I can't drill, any existing holes are useless, and "glue instead of screw" fails miserably, so we're left with a lighting fixture dangling from the ceiling.

It WAS a bare bulb dangling from a wire, so it's still an improvement... Kinda.

I guess the next step is call in a pro.

Ta da! ๐Ÿ’ก #FiatLux

We got the proper cement for the job, cemented on the baseplate, let it set, and voilร !

*pats self on back*

@BlippyTheWonderSlug I hope you washed off the cement before you patted yourself on the back.
@BlippyTheWonderSlug Before drilling into metal make sure that it is not a pipe. I did a pressurized sprinkler pipe once.

@BlippyTheWonderSlug Try determining which way the beam runs by tapping lightly and experimentaly around the light fitting.

Turn off the light and power.

Where the plaster sounds hollow drill the largest hole you can that will give access but still be covered by the fitting.

Use a bent wire to fish out the cables.

Connect to your fitting.

Mount fitting in ceiling with plugs suited to plaster.

Repair holes etc with filler.

Good luck.

Oh, you can turn the light & power back on now.
