tho i rarely post there, i kept my twitter account active bc so many govts & official orgs use the place, stupidly, to make announcements.

but now they'll be training AI w the tweets, & i wanted to remove mine. not easy to do manually.

some nice coder guy wrote a free script to delete all of your tweets, once you get an archive of your data.
i'm not super tech savvy but i was able to do it following his instructions in this vid.

just FYI

How to delete all your Tweets for free (tutorial)

YouTube
@FelisCatus that costs money, so it can GTFOH
@rustoleumlove does it? I must admit I haven't used it, but coming from @thibault I would be surprised.

@FelisCatus i clicked thru the other day, bc the script thing, while doable, requores some thought and effort.

tweetedelete said they wanted something like $3/month for me to deal with my 'embarassing old tweets' -- i'm not running for office, i dont need a social media manager, right?
i just wanted them all gone

if there is a free option thru that website, i did not see it

@rustoleumlove ah, from their FAQ it seems it only lets you delete 100 tweets for free.
@rustoleumlove @FelisCatus it was free when I did it, but that was a while ago

EFF piece from January (reposted yesterday) w/ instructions on, beyond getting yr Twttr archive, how to save & share it with libraries, community groups, Internet Archive, if there may be historical value, public interest.

"There are many libraries, archives, and community groups who would be interested in preserving these archives. You may want to reach out to a librarian to help find one curating a collection specific to your community."

Save Your Twitter Account

Amid reports that the site formerly known as Twitter is dropping in value, hindering how people use the site, and has had controversial removals of accounts. It has never been more precarious to rely on the site, now called X, as a historical record. So, it’s important for individuals to act now and save what they can. While your tweets may feel ephemeral or inconsequential, they are part of a greater history in danger of being wiped out.

Electronic Frontier Foundation

@rustoleumlove oh good, Elon wont have to pay to store all that anymore.
And now the handle will be available for others
