@MrNuclearMonster Btw, you still doing Duolingo regularily? :)
I've let myself get sucked into it with some work colleagues a few months ago (got a streak in the 150s now).
I'm doing Japanese; my goal is to be able to watch anime without subtitles and read manga without going for the translations. Still far off, though. But I might try to go for the official JLPT N5 (that's the lowest one, somewhat equivalent to A1 on the CEFR scale) test next year.
Feel free to contact me for account name swap for friending on Duolingo, if you want.
@DrMcCoy Good to hear from you,
Wow you have even more Erfahrungspunkte in Japanese then I have in German! That’s awesome. I have kinda mellowed on Duo a bit in favor of language specific tools like Seedlang for German but you can get a lot out of Duolingo still.
I’ve been enjoying watching Tatort pretty much daily as well, though the episodes I have have burned in English subtitles. Hmm maybe there could be a Tatort anime? 😂
@MrNuclearMonster Yeah, I'm kinda motivated because there's a lot of stuff I want to be able to understand. More motivated than I was when I was doing Swedish back when (Swedish crime dramas aren't thath much my thing :P). I figure Star Trek helped me keep motivated with English ages ago, so weeb shit should work for Japanese
I also bought the Genki textbook, but I've been slacking on that. Duolingo I can do when I have a bit of time inbetween or before sleep in bed, and that's not something you can do with a proper textbook
I'm cringing a bit that Tatort is the German export you've latched onto, but okay :P. Dunno if you have access to https://www.ardmediathek.de/, the official online streaming service of the German public broadcast where Tatort is shown? No idea if they're doing geoblocking. They don't do any English subtitles, and the German subs are soft subs.
@MrNuclearMonster If you want more practice with more colloquial speech, with a regionally North-German-ish accent, I can recommend the Tatortreiniger (crime scene cleaner)
It basically follows someone whose job it is to clean up a crime scene after the police have gathered what they can, and contrasts his more down-to-earth working-class ideals with the different viewpoints of the relatives of the victims.
@MrNuclearMonster Or Mord mit Aussicht (murder with a view, though TMDB tells me the official English name is Homicide Hills), at least seasons 1-3
It focusses on a police officier who's been transfered from the big city to the police station in a small village in the countryside and now she has to adapt her views on proper procedure to the more slow and tight-knit community there
(Season 4 and onwards introduces a new protagonist and cast, and it's... not good)
@SamsenBdRi ..are you high?
I'm not even joking. Serious question, wtf are you on? You're not making sense in any of your toots whatsoever. Or is your head just filled with shredded cheese?
