So rambly long post(s) about how 2 full years after Hurricane Fiona I finally did what I should of done as soon as I got power back.

I replaced the sponge filters I had put into the tank for extra biological filtration.

Why so late? Well I was so paranoid about losing power again and the thought of "it kept them alive it must obviously be the best"

However just an hour after putting on my new seachem tidal 55 filter? Plants are pearling, active fish -

Gosh I miss cohost where If I wrote a big thing it would be cluttering folk's timelines with 20+ posts instead of you know, 1.

But the ease of this filters setup, its design? The fact the lid turns into a carry tray? Submersed filter pump that self primes? Its all real good.

I didn't fully like aquaclears because the motor being outside had a few problems. Rubber seal if it leaked would just pour water outside, if power went out it wouldn't prime itself, etc

So the sponge filters I had got old enough they were disintegrating and if I had to replace em anyways. Mise well grab that seachem and try it.

The big reason I think there's such a massive upswing? Even with big sponge filters I don't think the tank had enough surface movement to allow air exchange to happen. Water tension is kinda weird like that.

So it makes sense that for such a quick upswing in positive behaviour, there was a lack of oxygen and carbon dioxide
