50 years of tax cuts for the rich failed to trickle down, economics study says

Tax cuts for the wealthy didn't boost the economies of the U.S. and 17 other countries — but they did worsen income inequality.

@kingkaufman no never, I'll go the the foot of our stairs, who would have thought that, tickle me surprised, pull the other one ....

@kingkaufman '"Based on our research, we would argue that the economic rationale for keeping taxes on the rich low is weak," Julian Limberg, a co-author of the study and a lecturer in public policy at King's College London, said in an email to CBS MoneyWatch.'

Right, of course. Other than a handful of true believers, most of us knew that back then. Trickle-down "economic analysis" was just a fig leaf for conservative politicians to funnel money into the pockets of their patrons. Even George Bush Sr called it what it is back in 1980.

@kingkaufman That’s because the trickle down never made it down. It dried up before it even reached the middle class, just like the Colorado River would if we didn’t regulate water access

@bouriquet

{whispering} There was never a trickle, and they always knew there would never be one.

@kingkaufman You've just got to give it time.

@kingkaufman Before it was called "trickle down" economics it was known as the "horse and sparrows" theory, where an economy based on enriching the already wealthy was compared to feeding horses massive amounts of oats, so that the sparrows that picked at their dung would be well fed.

Yes, back then they said the quiet part out loud and admitted that the poor would be eating the shit the rich left behind.

@kingkaufman It doesn't work but we'll keep doing it, because the rich control the laws. The rich are "stakeholders".

@elronxenu

Oh it works! It works exactly as designed. Look at the growth in wealth inequality from 1980 to today. It works like a damn charm.

@kingkaufman It's almost like it was never *intended* to have that effect. "Trickle down" is the marketing ploy, nobody involved actually ever thought it would.

@kingkaufman If you want a good explanation of why #trickleDown does not work and how detrimental insufficient taxing of the rich is: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/is-inequality-inevitable/

I’ve copied some of these simulations. You see the #inequality grow in time, even when you start from a completely uniform population. I found it enlightening as well as deeply unsettling.

Is Inequality Inevitable?

Wealth naturally trickles up in free-market economies, model suggests

@ArtHarg

Thanks. I've had this saved for a few days but haven't gotten to reading it yet.

I actually don't have any need for a good explanation of why trickledown doesn't work. It's obvious to me on its face why it doesn't work.

If you explain trickledown theory to a group of relatively intelligent 11-year-olds, they'll see through it immediately.

@kingkaufman
It cannot be said enough:

TAX THE RICH!
BESTEUERT DIE REICHEN!

@kingkaufman
Just another garden variety actor that knew nothing about government except what their handlers tell them to do. Selling weapon to the enemy? Whoops ,my bad,

@kingkaufman

I'm not sure if there is a concept behind these articles
