Does anyone know if you deactivate your Twitter does it leave your handle open for others to use? I’m worried about impersonation
@DavidDarnes yeah. that's why I haven't deleted mine. I made the account protected and changed my username to my the url of my website :/

@DavidDarnes why do you fear impersonation on Twitter? Do you have accounts on all other platforms? Do you “own” accounts with handles “daviddarnes”, “ddarnes”, “davidd”, etc.?

I'm genuinely curious.

I deleted my Twitter account a while ago, it was so liberating!

@nhoizey I own “daviddarnes” on almost all the major platforms. I’ve used my Twitter handle on old public facing content (course, articles, etc) which I can no longer edit or have access to. Also used it as part of my freelance business. I’d love to delete it entirely, but instead I might close it down to private just to mitigate backlinks

@DavidDarnes ok, I understand. 👍

It’s sad that we can be somewhat held hostage of these platforms. 😕

@nhoizey very much so. It’s mainly my fault for originally putting too much dependence on a platform I have limited control over. Domains over anything else!
@DavidDarnes we all shared our Twitter handles on slides and conference sites. 🤷‍♂️
@DavidDarnes In all honesty. I'm keeping my Twitter account. However I'm quite active there anymore. Neither I am here, unfortunately. A lot of people didn't make the move to here and I find it very hard to follow accounts that interest me 🙁
@glenndotmx maybe I should be making more suggestions for people to follow 🤔
@DavidDarnes Would be helpful 😁 But I'm thinking, after reading that, I missed a few suggestions you've already made?
@glenndotmx have you checked out Bluesky yet? There’s a few suggestion lists going around there
@DavidDarnes Nah. Is it a better alternative to Twitter?
@glenndotmx it might be! It’s a lot more comparable and it’s growing quite quickly. Worth a peek
@DavidDarnes yeah man, I made a burner account, swapped the names, and deleted the OG account so I can keep the name 🫡
