Very demoralised by everything but especially the behaviour of my employer. That line got crossed. If you work in a uni you won’t have to guess.
@kate I’m assuming the worst and cuts are being rolled out. Having been through it myself (and living in limbo because process wasn’t followed) and it being all too common, in the end it is better. It’s getting to that state and through the change that sucks.
@kate I found anything that brings other perspectives is helpful for the experience. When the org wields blame you they transfer their “fault”, and that’s hard to navigate through. Other perspectives of that help reset the feelings and see new directions.
@kate I’m enjoying this email course at the moment as a way to be proactive. https://broneager.com/introduction-academic-side-hustle - it does a good job of seeing different value in the work of academia.

@timklapdor That’s useful, in a whisper-nudge way. Thanks!
@kate what I felt was a deep lack of value. What got me through was other stuff going on and other people recognising the value I had. Working through this I’m rediscovering some of that feeling.
@timklapdor I want to think carefully about bystanderism and moral injury though. I know my own value, what I’m wondering about is my values. This is the dilemma and risk of burnout in rapidly restructuring industries especially in periods of layoff.
@timklapdor @kate as I head towards the end of a 2+ yr contract, I'm thinking outloud with you both. I'm wondering if third space practitioners (TSP) are really good at side hustles..... given the diversity of backgrounds or home disciplines? I know that #TELedvisors is keeping my sanity....plus my music teaching....plus my music playing and open ed practices. My main side hustle this year https://thirdspacesymposium.com

@wentale @timklapdor This is an important question: how does third space work (itself already precaritised) anticipate side hustle work? Thinking about how many third space contracts I’ve seen put on soft money over many years. Thanks for the link, I’ll go check that out. Good to think with you.
@kate @timklapdor Would be great to have you in that space Nov15-30 for critical conversations and some amazing activities from our colleagues globally addressing #ThirdSpace issues, roles and relationships. #TELedvisors
@wentale @timklapdor I’d really welcome that opportunity.
