Royal Mail statuses are confusing. Why did they say a package was being 'delivered' when it was just being transferred between delivery hubs?

Grr. At least I know it's in the right area but still no delivery time. This is a 48hr post that's taken 4 days. Hopefully with the buyer today.

Royal Mail tracking now says "We normally expect to deliver to your address between 9:50am - 1:50pm"

I hope they mean the final destination, as their delivered' status seems to have a different meaning to what I initially believed.

On reflection, the Royal Mail status was ominously vague.

"we normally expect to deliver" implies that there's a high chance of something not-normal happening.

What could it be?

a) postie delayed by market day traffic
b) post van stuck in a muddy bog
c) time ceases to exist once the county border is crossed
d) masked men hold up the locker site

My parcel has finally been delivered and the buyer has picked it up.

At last! All's well that ends well and all that.

Royal Mail only updated their status at the end of the day, a couple of hours after delivery. As it would have been stored in a locker that was fine but I'd have preferred a quicker update to reassure me that I wouldn't have to wait another day.
