English people walk to Grope Lane 🚶🏻‍♀️

EDIT: Wow, it used to be Gropecunt Lane: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gropecunt_Lane

Gropecunt Lane - Wikipedia

@LilahTovMoon If it's the same street as the one I'm thinking, you might want to look up the original name. Classy it is not.
@Strider Before the Great Street Renaming of a couple hundred years (?) ago ... yeah. There were loads of such lanes. Much as there's "Baker Street" or "Tape Street". @LilahTovMoon

@mattwilcox @LilahTovMoon

Yeah, such names were in several cities, including mine.

@LilahTovMoon Austrians go right to Fucking.

@LilahTovMoon

Or Grape Lane. Which is just linguistic drift.

@LilahTovMoon okay I'm British and I knew about *a* Gropecunt Lane existing. It's news to me there were several, nay it was a common name like say Market Street! After Brexit there are few things to be proud of in this sorry nation, but you find new reasons for hope every day.

@LilahTovMoon
"Streets with that name were often in the busiest parts of medieval towns and cities, and at least one appears to have been an important thoroughfare."
