So apropos of nothing in particular https://chaosfem.tw/@rooster/113283640352363325

If you hang around around Internet Trans people you've probably heard the "You can just be a girl" / "You can just be a boy" line, and that's a super good point!, but

There's actually an even simpler line, which is you can just stop being cis. If that's what you'd prefer. You don't have to change your pronouns, presentation, or even particularly your gender identity itself. You can just stop feeling like you're cis. That's an option.

To ~cis~ people excited about presenting as a different gender for Halloween: I’m not implying anything, just recommending you deeply examine your motivations and feelings šŸŽƒ

You don't owe it to do anyone to do gender a certain way or think about it a certain way. The first thing any trans spectrum person figures out is they don't have to put Society in control of their own gender. But sometimes people figure that out, and then immediately kinda get lost by putting Queer Theory in control of their gender. Reverse back into the closet by concluding they're "Not Really Trans", because they decide they don't fit some exact Queer Theory formula. No! *You* are in control!
(One exception: If there is something you *want*, you probably actually don't have control over that. You're almost certainly going to keep wanting it even if you decide you don't want to want it anymore. Sorry.)
Note to cis people who only find the above thread bewildering: It is also okay to just be cis. That's fine too. I give you permission
@mcc i think one of the best things I learned from taking A Bunch of Queer Studies Classes in College is that it's ok to Have A Think About Your Gender. you might end up with the takeaway of "yeah, i think i'm cool with this" but also there's no harm in thinking about it
@dante the biggest red flag should've been that people are worried their kids think about their gender, because their own conclusion may differ from societal brainwashing. Whenever a movement is worried about people thinking, that's kinda bad
@dante @mcc Yep, I'm around a lot of queer people and it naturally causes me to question myself, "hey, am I an egg?" I'll ponder it for awhile and determine I'm a cis het guy and I'm happy with that, until the process repeats again.
