Really love the Tesla owner going probably 30 miles an hour on a slow street, screeching to a halt at a stop sign when he sees me in the cross walk, then honks at me when I look his way (he was seconds from just hitting me).

And then turning down the street as I keep going, rolling down his window and verbally berate me “hey, I stopped didn’t I? Asshole!” As if I should be praising him for … following the law? He kept that up for most of the block before speeding off.

Meanwhile, I said *nothing* and did *nothing* other than use a cross walk and look at him as I crossed.

@ryanboswell Lake street?
@rombat 20th street over near Bryant

@ryanboswell @rombat

Ah yes, the "Slow Street". Much safe, very street. Plastic straws enforce so well

@ryanboswell sorry that happened to you, so shitty.

I’ve told drivers before it’s the CA state law that they need to stop for peds in the crosswalk and they acted genuinely surprised to me. Maybe that was the case with this jerk.

@clhenrick yeah, as much as I don’t love SFPD for many reasons, I do have an appreciation for their recent crosswalk “stings” with an officer in a literal chicken suit crossing the road and catching drivers who don’t stop. More of that and less body-slamming actual pedestrians please.
@ryanboswell whoa I had not heard of that, wish the Oakland PD would bust people for doing that!
@ryanboswell always carry a brick.

@tito_swineflu I considered getting confrontational, but it’s me against someone in a several ton killing machine, who obviously has anger issues.

But I’ve definitely pulled out my phone to get evidence for bad behavior before.

@tito_swineflu @ryanboswell A photographer at MIT in the 70s carried around a few 35mm film canisters full of water. Made a satisfying THUNK on cars running the stoplight at 77 Mass Ave, but with deniability and no damage.
@Haldane @ryanboswell i hit a car that tried to run me down with a strawberry yoghurt once. Completely covered the windshield.

@ryanboswell Sucks you had to put up with this. Seen similar attitudes on Page Street.

I'm pretty tired of feeling like a pedestrian in a GTA video game when I walk around SF.

The worst intersection near me is where Waller, Castro, and Divisadero meet. Cars fly through with no regard for the crosswalks there.

@_jimnelson_ I’m very familiar with that intersection, both as a driver and pedestrian. The road almost encourages speeding through that bit and could really use a stop sign or something to slow it down.
