Beaches were busy this warm public holiday Monday (school holidays too!). Didn't even try to snag a park nearby - parked in town and walked up (about 10mins stroll). #swim #ocean #NewcastleBeach #NewcastleNSW
Swam at the Ocean Baths since the surf looked too busy to be fun (dodging overstimulated kids or loose boogie boards not my thing). Baths were still busy but way more enjoyable. #swim #ocean #NewcastleOceanBaths #NewcastleNSW
Hard to get a decent pic with all the people around. Trying to avoid showing too much of peoples' skin (so many sunbathers in some spots it was like a wall of bums rising above the pool edge - one of the times i'm really thankful i'm so short sighted 😂). Nothing wrong with them showing skin and worshipping the sun but try to avoid stuff i wouldn't want shared on the internet personally.

One of my fave little lanes, beside the cafe. #laneway #garden #StreetGarden #walk #StreetArt
@psychopoesie ooh I have not been there since the renos, looks flash!
@ThoraiyaDyer yeah, they've smartened up the pool and the promenade area (more shade and seating). Done a good job too, though part of me misses the wildness and character of the crumbly old pool. The building itself is still waiting for phase 2 of the restoration.
@psychopoesie aha. Gonna be like the Merewether surf house, then? All fancy rentable private party space? Oh well, as long as the pool stays free :)

@ThoraiyaDyer suspect that's what council would like. Unlike the surf house, the pavilion regularly gets invaded by strong surf. So don't think it's a goer. Won't stop them trying to sneak in as much as they can.

Not happy council want to do away with the open air communal change rooms. There are already individual change cubicles for those who prefer that.

Will be interested to see if there's enough community pushback on all counts to alter the plans.
