A question for #BandCamp people/contributors. I want to put some of my music up and it is quite eclectic. Is it better to make a band site for each genre, or just throw it all in one space?
As opposed to having a label site, which costs moneys, I believe. I'm curious how this effects both the audience and the "branding" for want of a better word.
I mean, my brand could be that I'm a mess, but maybe people aren't ready for that.

#musicians

@Rob interesting. I have this same issue, my genres are all over. But I do my main account like a "label", Sour Anteater Records is me (literally, every project here I wrote, recorded and it's me singing and playing several instruments usually - I just gave them all different project names) 😂 (https://souranteater.bandcamp.com)
and it doesn't cost extra.

Maybe for visibility, etc it's better to have it separately, which I do for my main current project, Combustion Vehicles (https://combustionvehicles.bandcamp.com). Different email, etc.

I also have an old project up separately too, https://studlyhusbandrubbings.bandcamp.com.

I'm an experimenter.

But I also don't SELL much of anything, which is fine with me. People who want/need to sell (like you?) it might be a little different? I say try it BOTH ways though haha

Sour Anteater Records

Loud, rough pseudopunk + weirdness. No fucking fascists or bigots

Sour Anteater Records
@jake4480 This was my original thinking. I put all my home grown stuff under one banner, but the collaborative/band stuff gets its own home.
I don't expect to sell anything, but I'm thinking that some of this stuff might as well be out there. Who knows.
I just mostly see BC sites that are quite "focused". Probably thinking too much about this. I'll check out your site and see how that looks/feels.
@Rob @jake4480 Is the music you make by genre under a different band name?
@soundclamp @Rob yeah, and I was curious about which eclectic genres specifically too
@jake4480 @soundclamp Genre-wise there's a lot of variations of rock, guitar based stuff that doesn't really fit under one umbrella. Then there's some acoustic stuff, quite a bit of more experimental electronic stuff, even some that is probably more industrial. Stuff ranges for a few minute pop-style structures and lengths to 8 minute soundscapes.
I think I need to go back through it all and see how to group things, and maybe simplify the eclecticity.
@soundclamp @jake4480 Yeah, generally I create a new "band" and name for different projects, but given none of it is in the public domain at the moment I could call everything "Rob's music". Or I could change the band names they were created under. I am all powerful at this point!
@Rob @jake4480 Do you collaborate with anyone else in these different bands?
@soundclamp @jake4480 This is really just about stuff that is 100% me. If it's a collab than that's another discussion with the other artists.
@Rob @jake4480 Since it’s all you, playing in different styles, wouldn’t it be easier to keep track of everything on a single artist’s page?
@soundclamp @jake4480 This is what I started thinking about, and seems to be the consensus, but as I know nothing I wanted to hear what people thought before diving in.
@Rob i don't know if this helps but they ask genre for each album
@adriantepes That's good to know. Thanks.
@Rob @adriantepes You can also specify the artist name for each album and each track, within a standard artist account.
