This is worth ~$300.
It is called the Superior Garbage Disposal tool. It helps you remove stuff that is jamming up your disposal so that all it does is hum.

I turned off the power and used this beauty. I found a broken porcelain spoon in the drain (wonton soup spoon). You stick the silver end into the garbage disposal and turn the top of the T until pieces pop out. Then you pick out the bits.

Buy this. Watch a you tube video. You will be as happy as I am at missing the $300 bill

@jgodfrey like 8 mos ago I had a humming-only disposal & figured I needed to replace it. So I buy a new one & get down to opening it up & one of the first things in box is a big old allen wrench, which reminded me that the old one came w/one of those also. So I find the old one & stick it in the hexagonal opening at the bottom center of my broken unit, and turn. Boom--disposal un-stuck, the cat food can lid that had gotten itself wedged in the mechanism now loose.

@rpardee You Tube suggested that as well. I didn't have faith that the humble allen wrench would work.
