Happy National Poetry Day to all those who celebrate.

Here’s a poem called ‘In Search of Poetry’. It’s constructed entirely from popular Google searches about poetry.

@brianbilston I love the egg with the horse inside.
@josgeluk @brianbilston I can't figure that question out, but am imagining it's the Trojan horse.

Under One Small Star

Don't bear me ill will, speech, that I borrow weighty words,
then labor heavily so that they may seem light.

@brianbilston Fear, from R. Carver, goes deeper into the anaphoric resource

Some poets in Spanish —recently Ben Clark; a bit before Jorge riechmann— wrote poems by literally extracting lines from newspapers news.

I’ve seen the same technique but using instead a unique law, which causes a deep impression due to the inner opposition of both languages.

@brianbilston in which nation?
@brianbilston We 🇳🇱 dont seem to have a specific national poetry day but we do have a poetry week that we share with the Flemish speaking part of Belgium 🍻 next one will start on the 30th January and is themed Lijfelijkheid (embodiment)

@priscillaharing A whole week! What a luxury.
@brianbilston we got someong ass words to get through 🤣
@brianbilston "Poetry is a political act" is right on. Poets are anarchists and they are on the front line of the fight for truth and beauty, something the fascists among us desperately want to stamp out.
@flyhigh @brianbilston The same can go for all arts I think. Someone said "art is the experiment of society" which I quite like
I believe they said it in big neon letters on top of a building
@brianbilston Poetry is that sound you hear when the wings of spirit beat against the cage of words.
