@Techmeme Incrementally increasing ad load until customers leave is how you get a dying product. By the time customers leave, you can't cut ad load anymore because you've promised Wall Street the revenue, which is now revenue on a declining user base, so you have to keep raising ad load, and keep losing more customers. This is well known in the industry, but a mistake companies make over and over again anyway.

@Techmeme it doesn't help that it's basically impossible to not accidentally sign up for prime if you order through amazon.

I cancelled b/c of the ads (and shipping has been week+ on average with prime for years now), and every time I do try to order I have to click through saying "no I don't want prime"...
