Wake up babe, a new litmus test for identifying your very shittiest friends just popped up this week.

After commenters on Twitter rambled about how only "woke" game devs use game engines, Godot jokingly embraced the idea with a little rainbow flag (🌈) emoji.

Since then, they've been hammered by reactionary bullshit. People yelling at them to keep politics out of their game engines, telling them that software dev is inherently apolitical, and bigots raiding their Discord and spewing hate, prompting a lockdown of their community.

One of their moderators posted this week that their little post was entirely apolitical and uncontroversial except to some of the shittiest people on the planet, and I'm really inclined to agree.

Some people's entire lives have been declared "political", and reactionary chuds pushing the "no politics in software" are doing everything they can to ensure we never speak about these people or their contributions to the ecosystem.

@oli @SilverEagle Every now and then I want to make a game but on the rare occasion that I start I never get very far (except when I made my computer play alquerque, then another abstract strategy game of my own design, and when I made a minor pull request to someone else's open source game)

@kescher @SilverEagle At least one of the games developed with Godot, Cassette Beasts, already ended up in one of those lists on Steam because the game has they/them pronouns option in the character creator, has anti-capitalist message and a racially diverse cast, so I won't be surprised if being made with Godot is enough reason for the anti-woke crowd to list more games.

@sol_hsa we set our Discord server icon to this one year for pride month and then just never switched it off, it seems to ward off a lot of the bad traffic we'd otherwise get

@robinsyl @SilverEagle yeah the "community manager rampage" thing was blocking the fascists who showed up to complain, which resulted in blocking one of their titanium members who was complaining about "politics in game engines". Good news is the response to "well I'm not gonna donate anymore" seems to be "good, we don't want your fash money anyway, don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out".
