@EllenInEdmonton I've only read the book twice. The first time was before I saw the film, the second long after. I enjoyed the book the first time as a 17 year old, much less so the second at nearer 40. It was too self-consciously meta for my tastes, although the rescue from the Pit of Despair was very much better in the book than in the film. Twice was enough for me when it comes to the book, but the idea of never watching the film is well, inconceivable.
