Hundreds more publications have joined the Fediverse through Flipboard's federation. Here's the first thread, I'll do another tomorrow.

If an account posts too much, try following one of its "sub-accounts" instead, as mentioned in each post. Alternatively use Mastodon's Lists feature.

p.s. Most of these accounts post a normal amount, but some of them post a LOT. If you want to narrow down what kind of posts you get from an account, try following an account's sub-account(s) instead of following the main account itself.

I've attached an example diagram at the bottom of this post to show what I mean, the example is a post from NPR's account.

Alternatively, you can use Mastodon's Lists feature to put accounts into their own mini-timelines, more info at https://fedi.tips/how-to-use-the-lists-feature-on-mastodon

p.p.s. If an account looks blank, it isn't. All of these accounts are posting, just follow an account and you will see its posts start showing up in your timeline.

The reason they look blank is they only started federating a couple of days ago, so their posts may not have federated to your server yet. There's more info about this at https://fedi.tips/why-does-someones-account-page-look-completely-blank-is-it-really-blank/

p.p.p.s. As some people have asked, these are official accounts owned by the publications themselves. For example here's an article from 2012 where NPR discusses joining Flipboard:

https://www.npr.org/sections/inside/2012/05/16/152826526/flipping-for-npr

These accounts have been around for years on Flipboard itself, but only as an isolated platform.

However, since a couple of days ago, their Flipboard accounts started federating with the Fediverse. We can follow them, they can follow us. That's why I'm posting about them now.

@FediFollows Is this why certain replies in a thread don't show up? If so, is there a way to 'force' immediate federation?

@nopnop

Yes, in certain situations if no one on your server (or anyone they follow) has any connection to the author of a reply, then the reply may not show up.

You can always check the most complete version of a thread or profile by going to its original page, more info here: https://fedi.tips/what-are-original-pages-in-mastodon/

If you see a post or profile elsewhere and it isn't showing up on your server, you can force your server to notice it by pasting the post or profile link into the search box on your server.

@FediFollows Thanks for the info!

I've been on here for a couple of years now and encounter that every once in awhile. I always wondered what was up with that.

@Judeau

Accounts can prevent themselves ever looking blank to anyone by pinning posts on their profile.

Pinned posts are always visible to every server, so a profile with pinned posts never looks blank. More info at https://fedi.tips/how-do-i-pin-my-posts-on-my-mastodon-profile/

@FediFollows thanks! But … no Art category? 🤔

@deborahh

There is art but I hadn't finished adding all the accounts in the latest batch. Also bear in mind this is just a list of accounts that Flipboard federated a couple of days ago. There are previously federated ones, and there are publications that aren't on Flipboard.
