I'm currently (re)watching "Space: Above & Beyond", and was terribly confused why the beep beep noises the silicates make feel so terribly familiar when the last time I watched this show was back in the 90s.

And while watching another episode during my late lunch break just now I realised: it's the same sound effects used for the acknowledgement sounds in the indie game "Duskers"!

Mystery solved, thank fsck, this was driving me crazy! 😂

@foosel I loved that show! It did so much story telling and character development on such a small budget.
@RobeeShepherd well, you might be thrilled to find out then that it's available on youtube (at least currently): https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMD9ghErEvtxvdsWQIoWqN2kPbl6nLKv2

@foosel I may have already found this out and accidentally gone to an episode with David Duchovny as an Android playing pool! 😂

@RobeeShepherd R&R ^^

I will admit that I missed most of the show back in the 90s, including the finale (thanks to going on vacation and the VCR automation not working out). Only started with "Who watches the birds" I think, then watched it here and there, and then missed the finale.

Got the DVD Box years later, but then never actually watched it because it was region 1 and my player refused to play it - and for some reason I never ripped it.

Now FINALLY this playlist came to my rescue XD

@foosel @RobeeShepherd Oh wow people talking about Space Above and Beyond here! 😍

@kelpana @RobeeShepherd And it's aged surprisingly well so far! Even the VFX.

Was also very surprised by that when I did a full rewatch of Babylon 5 a few years ago, CGI rendered on an Amiga Cluster, and definitely looking old, but during the intense story and action scenes you just don't care 😄

@foosel @RobeeShepherd agreed. I think there was a transphobic or homophobic joke in one or two episodes, that's the worst I can think of. However the show deals with a lot of issues you wouldn't expect a 90s show to touch.

@kelpana @RobeeShepherd I was very surprised to discover an "evil corporation" subplot pretty much right from the get go. I certainly don't remember that, but I'm totally into it now.

Though I had to laugh when the last episode I watched basically ended with a Pulp Fiction Suitcase Moment™, that was a bit too cliché.

Still, looking forward to how all of that develops - no spoilers please, I forgot pretty much all that I knew and didn't watch everything back then when to begin with ^^

@foosel @kelpana @RobeeShepherd welp I'm not even past the pilot yet and they've done a "HAHA MOZART IS ACE BUT ARABIC MUSIC IS AWFUL" bit. smdh.
@gadgetoid @foosel @RobeeShepherd I don't remember that but will look for it on a rewatch.

@kelpana @foosel @RobeeShepherd oh no, spoilers! 🤣

Finished the pilot, on balance it’s aged about as well as you could expect, assisted by the topical relevance of “AI Wars” 😬

@gadgetoid @foosel @RobeeShepherd like, I'm going to give a show like that a bit of lee way. Even the X-Files had dodgy episodes viewed through the lens of today. Also, IIRC the pilot was one of the worst episodes.
