@jeffowski Men who are perceived as insufficiently masculine get bullied by other men.
Apparently, you and the originators of this meme have never experienced that. Lucky you!
This gets posted often and it is my sacred and oft-repeated duty to remind fedi that not all men are cis.
@ryanc @jeffowski see also, the things society does to women. And observe that the treatment women get is always worse, because why would anyone choose to be a woman?
Fuck the patriarchy
Fun fact: Nothing in that text implies that such a man actually treats women badly.
Conceivably, women could be entitled to benefits in that man's thinking that he is afraid to acquire unfairly.
This text definitely has its merit as a thought-provocer.
But when actually starting to think about it seriously, it has (several) flaws.
I think other reasons why a man doesn't want to be perceived as a female exist.
@jeffowski I realize you didn't create this meme. It's mostly true, but the exceptions people are citing in the replies are legit. Most of these issues could be fixed with one simple word change:
"... fears being treated the way men treat women."
Because lots of men who fear being treated the way women are treated, do not themselves actually treat women that way. But their fear is legitimate, because this is how women are actually treated, and they, too, are undeserving of being targeted this way by the patriarchy. These can include, but are not limited to: nontoxic cis, trans men, gay men, gender-nonconforming men (I.e. with effeminate traits or interests), or any man being pressured to conform using misogynistic methods.
In this, our purposes are all aligned in fighting the patriarchy and toxic masculinity regardless of gender. And that's why its important to point it out.
