Hold on, is #DuckDuckGo using LLMs for link previews now? This text is nowhere on the #Wikipedia page and doesn't sound like their style at all. When I use #Bing to search for the same thing, it doesn't give me this description.

#GenAI #LLM
And if this is true, where do we go from DDG? I'm not feeling it with Kagi.
@nicd I use Google without an account.
@nicd I flit from Startpage to Qwant to Mojeek to Marginalia and Wiby, and so on. Not sure I have a favourite search engine at the moment.
@nicd what are you not feeling with Kagi?
@nicd Most likely. DDG has been experimenting on LLMs for a while, and propably moved those from a separate chat UI to the main search UI.
@autiomaa I hope not. This preview is worthless and doesn't tell me anything about how the words exist on the page. It's the exact opposite of what I want in a preview!
@nicd Agreed, it's a mess. 😧
@nicd DDG has been using the full Wikipedia data dump separately. Since the same dataset is also the most used dataset for LLMs, it isn't surprising to see those "summary" snippets (generated with LLMs).
@nicd The internet is becoming a minefield.
@dm319 Yesterday https://blog.nytsoi.net/2024/09/22/crushed-by-ai, and now this? Can we set up an alternative Internet with no LLMs?
Crushed by AI

My server is being hammered to death by AI bros. Whatever happened to good manners?

Random Notes
@nicd You joke, but maybe an alternate internet might work? I don't mind going back to forums, and pages that were no more than 100kb. Maybe a bit like demoscene contests, there is a kb limit on a 'webpage'. And no AI please.
@dm319 Heh, my blog would easily fit if it weren't for the fonts that add 200 kB by themselves... 🙈 I wonder if I could optimise those.
@nicd I hear that Revision Demo Party 2025 is introducing a new category 'web fonts 25kB' :). PS love the blog.

@nicd Reddit suggests that it's in fact Bing's doing - https://www.reddit.com/r/duckduckgo/comments/1f1w2yk/how_do_i_remove_ai_text_from_search_result/

The prefix "learn about" also appeared in an article from last year about AI-generated descriptions in Bing - https://www.theverge.com/2023/11/17/23966171/some-of-bings-search-results-now-have-ai-generated-descriptions

@hxv Interesting that when I search using the same terms in Bing, this AI slop does not come up.
@nicd @hxv Made available via the API maybe but not taken up by Bing itself?
@nicd I hadn't seen it yet and I thought it was because it affected only results in English, but no, French results also have the issue.

@nicd Yeah, sometimes... yay for non-reproducible search results...

Attached: 1 image is it just me or has duckduckgo started showing AI generated summaries of pages instead of the normal meta descriptions??? like this is definitely not from the actual bandcamp page
