@paulhellyer happy anniversary to you & your beloved, Paul. I’ve read one of Magda Szabó (tr. Len Rex) previously, & it’s wonderful. I keep hoping to see an audio version of any others available. I hope you enjoy The Fawn very much.
@heyrochelle Thank you, Rochelle! Szabó is a terrific writer and had she written in English she would be up there with Doris Lessing as one of the greatest mid-century writers of the female experience. The Door is a masterpiece and the New Times reviewer said of it that it had, "completely changed her outlook on life." I am really looking forward to reading The Fawn.
@paulhellyer The Door was a remarkable book. I’m grateful to Len Rix for making her available to English speakers & I hope one day soon that more of her translated books are available in audio. I know she was recommended widely by people who participated in Women in Translation Month & in Translation Month to other readers. She’s an absolutely extraordinary storyteller.
@paulhellyer
Congratulations Paul. Happy days.
Fish and chips delivered is unheard-of where I live. Bon appetit.
