I used my iPad to CAD-model a very frustrating out-of-code electrical wall box that was impossible to inset/move into a somewhat handsome 3D printed off-set extended switch plate. Gotta reprint in a nicer white, but not shabby!
@snazzyq why « reprint in a nicer white »?
Just paint it!
@snazzyq I really need to get myself a 3D printer.
@snazzyq that’s really good! looks legit
@snazzyq Still pretty good looking l'île that to me 🤔
@snazzyq did you use the iPad to lidar scan the box or did you use it to create the CAD drawing, or both?
@rscullen iPad to make the drawing. Shapr3D.
@snazzyq what CAD program did you use?

@snazzyq That box is a mess, but at least it's modern wiring. The joys of living in an old house, right?

I used to live in a 1896 Victorian in SF, and the few wall boxes I replaced switches on myself, the crumbing original rubber insulation on the wiring absolutely terrified me. (For post-install electrical fire risk, turning off the breakers made the install safe enough…) We still had some knob-and-tube wiring in our kitchen!
