In today's episode of I Wish This Were Satire: a local business owner is suing the food bank, yes, the FOOD BANK where people go to get food for themselves and their children.

Why? Depends on who you ask: either because this guy doesn't want to pay his rent and is trying to get a settlement from the city OR because, in his words, ""As proposed, the Food Bank building would be built illegally on a Historic parking lot. This parking will be stolen forever from the People of Alameda."

The food bank expansion would steal our... historic parking?

I’m hearing reports from the council meeting that he verbally stated that he supports the food bank… as he’s suing to stop them

Because he wants to save the historic parking lot.

My question is how do people feel no shame? Like I feel insecure and self-critical much or the time, and I’m not stopping an actual food bank for no damn reason

@Bronwyn What makes a parking lot historic?
@heptagon @Bronwyn
It's been there for a long time. That's literally all it takes to make something eligible for historic preservation in many cities.
@Bronwyn Wdym?
@heptagon it’s messed up that anyone can even think the phrase “historic parking lot” is ok. (There is, literally, nothing special about this parking lot)

@Bronwyn Ohhh, I agree (I just didn't understand what particular thing you were calling messed up).

Looks like the city doesn't plan on entertaining Hickman's claims (via KRON4) https://www.kron4.com/news/bay-area/alameda-food-bank-services-in-jeopardy-due-to-lawsuit/

@heptagon unfortunately the city can’t throw out the lawsuit. It will get thrown out but the delay will hurt the food bank

It’s so ridiculous!
