Emma (IPG)Apple are adding NFC/whatever restoring from recovery mode on the iPhone 16? that's really fucking cool. but i'm also concerned(?) about that possibly adding a lot more attack surface to iBoot
Emma (IPG) - inactive nerd alti trust Apple's bootloader security these days, especially with the hardware-backed security they have in place and the iBoot hardening they did a few years back. so i'm not *super* concerned, especially because iBoot can be updated (and that's assuming it does live in iBoot and isn't in some recovery stripped down iOS)

@ipg yeah the 9to5mac article says they have a separate recovery partition on the phone, i assume like they do have on apple silicon macs
amarioguy@ipg iirc this isn't done in iBoot itself (it's the same things on watch/tvOS as siguza said), but rather a separate minimal recovery os sort of space (there's a difference between iBoot recovery mode and this recovery mode, the iBoot recovery mode i think still requires USB as I don't think NFC was added to iBoot at least not the D94AP one that I glanced at
