I’m about to leave a job I’ve been doing almost exclusively remotely for two years. Very looking forward to IRL colleagues again!

WFH is great for flexibility especially with young kids, but far out the lack of a human element really compounds boring / repetitive work to the point of making it intolerable.

Don’t get me wrong I have worked repetitive jobs: factories, night fill, help desk, etc. A good team around you is what makes the job. Without that you’re just doing a Sisyphus.

And I think this is perhaps at the heart of the push back on remote work from companies that have a lot of ‘bullshit jobs’ - the office environment is carefully calibrated to make you okay with grinding out that kind of work. Managers know they can’t give people too much time alone to feel the full weight of their low productivity.
